For the second consecutive year, Stan Kolbe, SMACNA's Executive Director for Government and Political Affairs, was named one of the top lobbyists in Washington, DC, by The Hill. The list honors exceptional government relations professionals from the private sector, associations, and grassroots organizations who have made a difference in policymaking. These individuals have used their unique combination of experience and successful relationship-building to advocate for their constituencies. Of 12,500 registered lobbyists working across the Nation's Capital, only a select few were honored this year.
After an outstanding 2022, SMACNA's Government Affairs effort has continued with its positive momentum in 2023. Backed by SMACNA's policy team, Kolbe has assisted SMACNA contractors in skillfully navigating the tax credits and grants emerging from legislation such as the CHIPS and Science Act, Infrastructure and Jobs Act, and Inflation Reduction Act. In addition, in concert with its Labor Relations Group, SMACNA's Government Relations Team has stewarded through reforms to several key regulations, most notably, a series of labor and energy efficiency standards amended to the Davis-Bacon Act and the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). These innovative and targeted labor and tax reforms will help highly skilled signatory contractors be as competitive as possible when bidding for work in the private and public sectors.
In talking about his honor, Kolbe was quick to recognize the work done by the entire SMACNA team, "Our challenges and hours are often difficult, but without us sharing our policy experience and brainpower every day, it would not be possible for SMACNA (and me) to be viewed in such a positive way across the government and business sectors."
