Austin, Texas — October 21, 2019 — The Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association (SMACNA) today announced Joseph Lansdell, president of Poynter Sheet Metal, as Contractor of the Year at its 76th Annual Convention in Austin, Texas. The esteemed annual award is given to the person who exceeds all expectations in the industry.
“There is no one more deserving than Joseph to be named as the 2019 Contractor of the Year,” said Vince Sandusky, SMACNA’s Chief Executive Officer. “He is a shining example of what it means to be a true leader, and his work ethic and commitment to excellence are unmatched. I congratulate Joseph for receiving this prestigious recognition and look forward to witnessing all he will surely accomplish in the future.”
A member of SMACNA of Central Indiana, Lansdell has more than two decades of industry experience, including a background as a shop manager, operations manager, and project manager. Today, Lansdell leads Poynter, one of Indiana’s largest full-service sheet metal companies, as president. He is active in the larger community as well, participating in mentoring programs at Poynter Sheet Metal, volunteering through SMACNA, and leading the local high school’s booster club. Lansdell has also served on several construction-related boards in Indiana, including the Metropolitan Indianapolis Coalition of Construction Safety, Indiana Round Table, and Top Notch of Indiana, a union labor and management cooperative — and in 2011, he was named to Indianapolis Business Journal’s 40 Under 40.
Nationally, Lansdell served on SMACNA’s Board of Directors from 2007 to 2011 and became the association’s youngest president during his term from 2016 – 2017. He has participated in more than 50 SMACNA committees, panels and task forces, including the National Joint Adjustment Board and National Pension Fund.
Lansdell has a degree in mechanical engineering technology from Purdue University and a degree in business management from Indiana Wesleyan University. He resides in Greenwood, Ind. with his wife and children.
